"Art is not a thing; it is a way." Elbert Hubbard

Several yesterdays ago, we went to the coast. The first day was a beautiful sunny day, we visited a small beach town, drank some wine had a few snacks, talked, played dice (cuz the cards kept blowing away) and chased some waves....all in all a very relaxing and enjoyable day. The second day was spent in a port - a much larger, less quaint town. We went to some museums (quite a disappointment) ate in overpriced restaurants and bickered far too much. The day was cold and windy and by the time we got to the beach it was foggy, the sand was wet and we were all tired and cranky.

The drive to and from the coast was just as conflicting.... part of it was I-5, straight shot, fast paced, no confusion but also no interest. The second half was a small hiway with winding roads, passing through small towns. We would stop to take pictures of road oddities (including the Mona Lisa scorched into a hill on a llama farm).

That's what my life is like, that's what my art is like. Sometimes I have a good day- full of productivity and imagination. Other days I have to deal with the real world and, while I get things done, it's also very boring. Some days I get along with every one and the day is smooth and sunny and enjoyable. Other days I just want it to be finished so I can go to sleep and start over. Sometimes I really like the art I've produced and other days I just destroy it and begin anew.
